i caught whatever bug is going around..i'm home sick today..if i could sit up long enough, that might enable me to do more war prep....
on to the list
I've:
-pulled out my garb that i'm taking and repaired it and packed it
-pulled out my fighting clothes and other such clothes packed them (and i even remembered shower shoes!)
- pulled out my sleeping bag and other odds and ends (belt pouch, mug , mug strap)
-finished staining my bench
- fixed my old arming vest
-bought, serged and washed fabric for my shield
-washed and dried fabric for a new shower tunic (forgot that one yesterday)
But..i still need to
-reattach my camaille (i took it last night and have it about a quarter of the way reattached)
-recover and repaint my shield (pulled off the old cover, and put on the new one, including the elmer's glue coat)
-afix the leather to my vambrace (and straps)
-make a new shower tunic

So...you know i should have listened to my math teacher more in high school. Who'd have thought sewing my camaille back on my helmet (or at least to the leather that would go on my helmet) required math? I managed to change the stitch 3 times as well. "hmm..i'm not sure i like how that looks, let me try this" *rolls eyes at own stupidity*. I got done about 11. And yes, it really had to be done. After the demo, i had a 3 inch gap where it'd torn off on one side and another inch and a half on the other (although that was starting before the demo). I do wear a gorget underneath, so i wasn't horribly worried ...but i'm paranoid and short. Now to figure out my vambrace, I don't have enough leather to cover the new one (the plastic is a little thicker).
Amusing...my new boss (my previous boss retired in january, the new guy started last monday) is a sports nut. I mean when the group got to interview the candidates, i joked that he was the one cause he was a cubs fan. The office where the boss sits is drastically different than before. Gone are some of the books and flow charts and the like. In the place, pennants for his favorite teams, the cubs, the red sox, clemson, ohio state and the patriots (okay, so that's the one team i'm against...). He even has a standy/cut-out of Ryne Sandberg. What can i say? I'm amused :)
and finally a plea for help...my car is suffering from a dying clutch. I've invested a significant amount of money in repairs. I am not worried about driving it locally, i can always get a tow or a ride. But when the mechanic told me i had two years left on the master cylinder (last spring), i don't think he realized that i did as much driving as i have and do. I'm very nervous about driving my car to pennsic- I'm hoping to nurse it along until christmas, maybe get my tax return money to pay for a down payment on a car (maybe get more of my credit cards paid off by then so i can afford a car payment). I'm wondering if i could find a ride with someone? I'll be willing to pay HALF the gas up and back. I can't leave until Friday night before war week (August 1)at the earliest (not enough vacation time) and I really need to stay as long as possible to help break down camp at the end of war week. I talked to Cu about taking some of my gear in the trailer before my car started really worrying me. ( The clutch is grinding and slipping alot, and it pops out of first even after i have to triple clutch to get it to "go in".) So it would probably be me and some of my stuff, but not a lot.

I went out at midnight, and just cause i didn't want to fight the throngs at barnes and noble, i went to the evil empire (wal-mart). I was in and out in 10 minutes. I didn't read any Friday night, cause i knew if i did, i wouldn't put it down. So, after sleeping late ( i went out for coffee with friends after picking up the book). I got up showered and sat myself on the sofa around noon. Eight hours later (including dinner and bathroom breaks) i was done. Overall, pretty good, but the ending..hmm..just needed more. And for pete's sake did EVERYONE have to make a cameo in book 7? Holy crap! (okay, one person didn't but every other person in any other book did)
Not going to pennsic..personal reasons...ask me about it in person if you care to know..

Okay...okay..i'm gonna go. I Just had so much fun last weekend seeing Turg and Sue and C&P and just everyone. It was hot, i was itchy, but i got to spend time with such wonderful people, that even my craptacular performance on the fighting field was "ok" (well not really, but i still had fun). Those are the things I love about the SCA, being with friends and family and having fun despite the dust and the sweat and the heat... I'm not sure about money..what with us having to shell out another $1200 for the last of the painting and repairs, but we'll make it happen (we could paint the trim on the outside of the house, but i'm so burned out on home repairs, i can't make it happen. And if we pay someone, it'll be done next week.)
The pennsic to do list:
-Finish a dress, and check sizes on others
-make a cover for my helmet padding
-refinish the benches
-make at least one spare sword
-pull out the pavillion that james and mitake loaned us ever so long ago and clean it
-make some leather washers for my new gambeson and arming vest
The house list (of must do):
-clean the sunroom floor
-touch up the trim on 3 walls in bedroom and paint the fourth wall of trim (unfortunatly that includes the windows)
-touch up the bathroom walls
-buy new curtains for the bedroom
-throw mulch in the back planting area
-recaulk the drywall in the sunroom (i didn't do that great a job)
-paint the sunroom skylight boxes (i just primed them)
the list of should do for curb appeal
-trim for the skylights in the sunroom
-fix the shed door
-replace the shed roof
-paint the garage and put the gutters back up
-put another coat of paint on the sunroom walls
-paint kim's old room
-make up the bed in kim's room
-get a new shelf for the front hallway built in bookshelf

Wow, despite the poision ivy (and my rotten fighting) I had a good day. Carl and I rode up with C&P and got there around 10:30-11. BTW, the state of VA lies! about the speedlimit on those roads, 55 miles an hour my keester. Anyways, we got there and exploded the truck behind Turg and Sue's pavaillion (they were so nice, i felt so bad about all the stuff that materialized). We got armored up in the heat and i figured out a way to keep my legs from itching quite so much. Foolishly forgot to put on my camel back that we'd actually thought to pack. I couldn't get my head in the game, i felt ..out of it is the best way to put it. Couldn't concentrate. Made me mad at myself later cause i can do so much better. But i had so much fun despite that. Sir Harald talked me out of doing something stupid on the bridge....it really IS a bad idea for someone with bad knees to do pulse charges accross a bridge. *shuffles feet and hides* (i was good...i didn't do it after John said something). So i managed the field battles and the classes and the court and the start of the bridge battles..but then the poision ivy kicked in, i think it was the sweating..and i had to escape my armor. I couldn't get out of it fast enough. But luckily i'd thought ahead and dunked one of the handtowels (clean) in the cooler and soaked up some cooler cold water and put it on my legs. Brought down the itch/pain level enough that i could put cream on them, but i was done for the day- soon as i went back out into the sun...flared up. But there was a pool at the hotel, so i soaked in that, and tempted fate by actually getting my head wet. Had a nice steak dinner and hung out with c&p and we hung out with C while P tried to get dangerbaby to fall asleep. It was a good day. I miss days like that alot, and it got me craving going to pennsic again. I thought i'd resolved myself to not going..but i'm really waffling on it now. I talked to Meg last night and she hasn't made any plans yet, so it won't mess her up if i change my mind. Its still going to cost $300 to board the cats. But that's really the biggest expense...the hotel(s) and the food cost are about what we'd spend here anyway. Just dunno if i can stop being worried about the house. Man..if i go..I have so much to do too...
-finish that dress i cut out 4 months ago
-sand and refinish our benches
-really need a backup sword
-check what clothes fit
i know..now i'm just making up excuses..cause i really want to go...need to talk to C again, i'm already probably gonna sit out the bridge battles..and with this new discovery of poision ivy..i don't want to sit out the woods too. *sigh* *thump* i'm not sure we can afford this...
oh..on the home improvement front..i've got to goto Eldred and Claire's tonight to get my gambeson, but carl said he's going to finish painting the trim we already started on.
-We need to move the table from the sunroom to the dining room/area.
-clean the baseboards (merry maids only did so much)
-clean the floor in the sunroom (from all the paint and drywall dust and mud)
-contacted the contractor about painting in the living room and outside trim- he's going to try and get back to us with a schedule.
-paint the trim behind the bed and replace the curtains
-mulch the back
-put trim around the skylights in the sunroom/paint the wood
and we're done officially and can put the house on the market
Things that we should do before someone actually comes to look at the house:
-replace the outlets in the bedroom, sunroom and upstairs bathroom (we kinda painted over some of them)
-paint the garage trim and put the gutters back up
-replace the shed door
-replace the shed roof
-need more lawn and more plants
(falls under that whole curb appeal thing)
-might need another coat of paint on the sunroom walls
so..the have to do stuff maybe by the end of the week..the should do stuff..when we can get to it..
oh..itching better, but more widespread...still have hives..back to the doctor tommorrow
