amused at scammers

so i get this phone call at work from 228-209-9560
it started off with a recorded msg saying "we can lower you interest rate on your credit cards, press 1 to speak to a representative"
so..figuring this was a scam, but curious, i pressed 1
this guy comes on the line and i ask "which credit cards are you calling about?"
"any of the ones that have over a 10% interest rate"
"which ones would that be?" i say
"which one has a rate over 10%"? he responds
i say "which one are you calling about?"
he says "don't you know?"
me "yes i know, but which one are you calling about?"
him "well if you aren't going to confirm your information, i'm not going to give your personal information out to someone over the phone" and hangs up on me

*snicker*
i have actually gotten calls from CC companies before, they identify themselves, "we are with  X credit card company (chase, citibank, etc), and we're calling about your account ending in XXXX" not, "which card has a rate of over 10%"

Ankle of sorts

The ankle is much better. It only hurts a little, usually when i'm trying to get up off the ground. (see..i would have to have a job that requires me to crawl around under people's desks). Anyways...mostly better. I need to goto a sporting good's store and buy a brace. And really, before i go back to fighting, I need to get better boots. I have had the boots i've been fighting in..for..almost 7 years, they have held up well. But after tearing up my ankle like that, i'm going to declare them not tall enough around the ankle.  I'm going to have to save up money and maybe go up to a surplus store soon and get a new pair.  I so want to fight, but I really have to be good on this, if i don't get the boots, i'll do something stupid, as the ankle is just freshly healed and still a little weak (as evidenced by said pain at work).

why can't i ever think of something witty?

Well this is just a quickie...my ankle is progressing, but slowly now.
I've been trying to goto the gym twice a week. I've been managing once a week. This week i'm hoping for two.  I did 2 minutes on the elliptical trainer last week. Unfortunately, that's all my ankle could take before it started hurting...gotta keep forging ahead.

weekends and more

So...Saturday Paul and I went over and helped Dan clean his garage. For those of you that know not of Dan's garage. Its a 1.5 car garage that has shelving units filled with gaming books (front of the garage). The left side has shelving units filled, with, well everything. And the floor had a sofa, a gaming table and stuff. Everywhere. It has since been cleaned out. The 7 computer monitors are sitting on the hill waiting for his step-dad to come by with the truck and the dump pass (or unless you want one). There is about 4 feet from the door to the gaming table. Most of the books (except the ones in the house) are on the shelf and there is very little on the floor or sofa. We found some great things though. Magic cards. 4 different blood bowl teams and 3 different 40K armies. One still boxed and shrink-wrapped. It was a completely different garage...wow.

Sunday we went over for gaming, but two people in the group decided to leave- problems with the GM's furry family and treatment of said furry family. So we watched "an evening with kevin smith" and "an evening with kevin smith pt2" and had ribs and BS'ed most of the afternoon, it was a lot of fun. Not alot of dice rolling, but still fun.

My ankle is mostly better, still a little sore and i turned it again on Friday as i stepped in a hole. That hurt...ALOT. I was going to try and drive myself to work finally...unfortunately the car wouldn't start. *facepalm* The battery works (dashboard comes on, radio came on, air came on- radio and air were quickly turned back off), the starter seems to work, no click-click, but actually trying to turn over. I don't think its getting any gas to go...fuel pump? fuel valve? If its not a warrantied part i replaced in june...i may have to just call it quits. right now i'm "paying" $400 a month for the repairs in June, another $1000 just makes me cringe and go...f that, i can pay less than that and have a new car. So all the guys in the office are making recommendations. I've been exploring consumer reports all day. I'm surprisingly not very depressed right now. Not even really bummed, more like resigned to my fate i suppose. I have to try and get the car towed in tomorrow, didn't have time to do it this morning after i played with it for a few minutes.

I really want a rav4, that seems like the best price and sca compatible vehicle. But i may have to settle for a sedan. I need to test drive things and look at them to decide.

So i wake up at 3 am trying to figure out why i can't roll over. One cat (Mel) is sleeping next to my left arm. One cat (Ninja) is sleeping between my feet. And last but not least, one cat (Poof) is sleeping on my torso. I don't remember exactly where (although i suspect it wasn't my bladder since i didn't have to immediately get up and go pee), I just remember looking up at two glowing eyes and telling him to get down a few times. "Poofy, get down", "Poofy! get down" Very disturbing at 3 am...

ankles and such

Well i was gonna title it ankles and tigers and bears, but i didn't want to give people the wrong impression...not yet anyways :)

Sooo...the ankle. I can walk on it, kinda, it still is very painful to touch. I can't drive yet, i shift my foot from the gas to the brake and it feels like i just pulled all the strength out of my foot and leg. It kinda just is "there".  I could drive, it wouldn't be safe though. When the swelling has gone down overnight, you can kinda see my ankle. Well actually today...*ominous music starts playing* I could see my ankle bone...i could also see a thin rope like protrusion/line about half an inch below my ankle bone (fibula) that moved around under my skin when i poked it at. (Yes i really am that curious/stupid).  So...yeah...we'll be going to the doctor this afternoon...not that i think anything much can be done about it...but at least i actually will have a doctor's opinion :)  *whistles innocently about being stubborn*

Not a whole lot else going on, my dad's in town for a few days so we're doing dinner with them tomorrow night.  I sure hope baronial practice was much more fun than me limping around the football game on Saturday.

work crazy insane....i hadn't even checked in here in almost a week....
gonna try for WOW, need to find a
arms
It started last week...we think a sewer pipe burst next door in a storage area that used to be used for student laundry.  Its very nasty, we have our doors open and the fan blowing the stench out. But its worse in the back of the office and where my boss sits.  People tend to gag when they walk in here. Facilities maintenance said its a big project and they can't deal with it quite yet.  My boss call OHAS  (occupational health and safety) yesterday, they still haven't come by. The mosquitoes moved in ....GRRR...

Oh, and more lights went out in the office, we're up to 10 out, about 1/3 of our lights. How funny is it that the computer support people are sitting around in the dark? :)
(in short..*sniffle* no one loves us down here *sniffle*)

Ninja has decided since he isn't getting medicated any more that he wants to be around humans again. Unfortunately that means he tries to drink my water and play and basically get into everything at 3 am. Up to and including pouncing on Poof.  Nothing like watching a large black blob flying above the footboard on the bed at a sleepy 3 am.  (falls under the WTF category at 3am).  So, in retaliation, when i'm home from work, i now make sure he is awake every time i see him.  Wake up!!!!  (pet/shake). Okay, good your awake...10 minutes later..WAKE UP!!!  Indignant look by said cat is very amusing. I think if he had front claws it would be less so (i know where you sleep human, and i will wait till your asleep)

He's still getting antibiotics, because, well apparently, he had some icky pneumonia too.  (the vet swears it can't be passed to humans from animals, so i can't blame him- darn it!)  The upshot of all that is that i must medicate him.  After doing the clavimox pill twice a day, and watch him spit it up and drool it out, we got the liquid, much easier.  And, to boot, if he spits it out, it kinda drools in his fur and he has to bathe himself to clean up anyways so gets it that way (we are sneaky that way!).  Ninja has taken to when hearing his name "NINJA" (we say with cuteness and i need to find the cat) and he scampers off and hides.  When I get up in the morning and am leaving for work, he runs and hides, for he knows he gets this stuff twice a day.  So what do i do? I medicate him when i come home and then when I goto bed. Not quite as effective as 12 hour intervals, but easier than tracking him down when i'm already running late.  The best way to "get him" is wait till he is napping in one of the chairs, then grab him and squirt the medicine. Its a highly entertaining process all around, cause he starts making that spit- whatever- is- in- my -mouth noise even before you put the stuff in his mouth.  He then promptly gets down from the chair after having been medicated and is very indignant about the whole thing.   Then if you say "NINJA" and try to pet him, he's like -NO WAY MAN, i know what you're gonna do if i come close.  Very entertaining. "run away run away".  He's still very poodle like on his iv paw. I'm amused (and easily too), long haired cat, bald spot on his paw.  It looks like he's wearing a leg warmer on one leg (if you remember those from the 80's).  Anyways...cat tale for the day....laters...

Pneumonia= not fun
I'm sitting up, have been all day, (that is an accomplishment for day 6 of this) have only had about half a dozen coughing fits since this morning..but am still making gurgling and wheezing noises.  The nurse at the doctor's office told me that's to be expected, but that i was okay as long as i was slowly getting better..and i was coughing up ...umm...mucus..and most importantly that i didn't have a fever..

Wish someone had mentioned the fever part earlier...maybe i would have called them on thursday when i was shaking with chills for an hour straight...*sigh*.

But..if i'm not better by the time i run out of antibiotics (Friday) then i should call back...

Had to take Paul to urgent care on Friday cause he has the same funk..the urgent care doc looked at him and said, so you're worse off ? and we both said, no, i was actually much worse on symptoms than him..or had been (having broken my fever).

*hack hack* back to work like stuff...

email joke of the day:

WHEN INSULTS HAD CLASS

These glorious insults are from an era when cleverness with words was still valued, before a great portion of the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words, not to mention waving middle fingers.

'I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.' - Mark Twain

'He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends.' - Oscar Wilde

'I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend.... if you have one.' - George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill

'Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second... if there is one.' - Winston Churchill, in response.

'I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here.' - Stephen Bishop

'He is a se lf-made man and worships his creator.' - John Bright

'I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial.' - Irvin S. Cobb

'He is not only dull himself, he is the cause of dullness in others.' - Samuel Johnson

'He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up.' - Paul Keating

'There's nothing wrong with you that reincarnation won't cure.' - Jack E. Leonard

some other thoughts from the war

I must buy all the SCA type music i can!
okay...not really, but i did buy Sir Bryce's cd at the war and bought Sir Kenneth's cd "Human History" via itunes yesterday and I'm jonesin to got Camelot treasures to get at least one more. I don't know why, but i came back from the war and just feel invigorated with the SCA.

Must start planning the new entry gate for Camp. The old one didn't come down easy and is a pain to put up, so the squires were assigned a project of coming up with a new gate. *thinks* Canvas? Must mull these things over with the knight as i'm not good at wood things. (yet)

Ooooh, I almost forgot to tell you all about squire trivia at the war. Cu needed a bag of ice and so we got squire trivia to see who'd go. (Aaron and I decided we'd both go whoever won anyways). Got some cool questions and answers. We didn't know Duke Michael didn't have a knight, nor did we know who was the first queen by right of Arms. (Rowan, i believe in Ansteorra). Cool and fun things you learn at the war. I missed an easy question...i was lumping "lady of the rose" with "royal peer" (i got asked what the 5 peerages were), so i missed the answer...oh well. Live and learn and great fun...still not as much fun as "where do tuchux come from" *snicker*

back to musings on a gate...

after war armor repairs also dictate that i now buy more power tools...aww...shucks...

*edit* BTW, ninja is MUCH better, except now he's poodle cat (from shaved IV paw) and very clingy. He crawled into bed at 4 am and wanted to be held and petted but wouldn't settle down. He got ejected once before he got the hint.
